Mission — Planted by Streams, Bearing Fruit

 

Our Mission:
Overflow Church exists to plant people and churches by the streams of God’s Word so they bear lasting fruit where they live, work, and worship across the Bay Area.

What that means:

• Rooted in Scripture. Delighting in God’s instruction day and night (Psalm 1:2–3).

• Centered on Jesus. Saved by grace, not performance (Romans 1:16; Galatians 2:14).

• Sent to the City. Seeking the peace and flourishing of our neighborhoods (Jeremiah 29:7).

• Growing by Grace. We plant and water; God makes it grow (1 Corinthians 3:6–11).

 

How we pursue it:

• Gather for worship that is biblically rich and culturally accessible.

• Form diverse, relational communities that practice repentance, forgiveness, and hospitality.

• Serve the poor, the overlooked, and the anxious with mercy and justice.

• Equip everyday people to join Jesus in their vocations—tech, trades, arts, education, home.

• Plant and renew congregations so gospel overflow multiplies throughout the Bay.

The Picture We’re Praying For:
A movement of the gospel through Overflow Church that brings personal conversion, community formation, mercy & justice, and cultural renewal to the Bay Area—and through it, the world.

 

Four visible fruits of that future:

1. Personal Conversion
   People encounter Christ, are baptized into His church, and learn to follow Him with heart, mind, and life.

2. Community Formation
   Everyday groups become counter-cultural families—sharing resources, strengthening marriages and singles, re-ordering life around Jesus.

3. Mercy & Justice
   A credible witness to God’s compassion: serving vulnerable neighbors, advocating for the oppressed, and seeking civic good.

4. Cultural Renewal
   Faithful presence in work and the arts—integrating faith and vocation so good work blesses many.

Overflow Church will plant churches and renew churches that share this DNA—so that over time the Bay has more worshipers, more servants, more peacemakers, and more hope.​

1. Gospel Centrality
   The good news of Jesus is not advice but power—reshaping identity, relationships, work, and society (Romans 1:16).

2. Changed Lives
   Growth flows from grace. We change from the inside-out as the Spirit uproots idols and forms Christ in us.

3. Gospel Community
   Because we’re loved, we can be honest. We practice repentance, reconciliation, and costly hospitality in real relationships.

4. City Love
   We are for the Bay Area—its people, problems, and possibilities—seeking its shalom (Jeremiah 29:7).

5. Mercy & Justice
   Word and deed. We meet needs with compassion and pursue justice so neighbors can flourish (Micah 6:8; Luke 4:18–19).

6. Faith & Work (Cultural Renewal)
   Every vocation matters. We equip people to do excellent, ethical work as worship and witness (Colossians 3:23).

7. Outward Welcome
   Skeptics and strugglers belong here. We avoid insider jargon and take honest questions seriously (1 Peter 3:15).

8. Gospel Movement
   We collaborate across churches, ministries, and institutions with a kingdom mindset bigger than any one brand.

9. Church Planting
   The most effective way to reach new people, raise new leaders, and renew a city is to plant healthy, gospel-centered churches.

Our Theological Center
We are a church of Jesus Christ devoted to the true preaching of the Word and the right administration of Baptism and the Lord’s Supper, gladly confessing the ancient creeds (Apostles’, Nicene) and standing in the Reformed stream (e.g., Westminster Standards).

Safe, clean, Jesus-centered care from the start (background checks, two-adult rule, sensory-friendly options). Family preview gatherings happen during pre-launch.
